The key to the ratings, as seems to be the logic on a scale of 1-10, is not to view it as a “grade”, as in a 6 would be a 60 or a C. The formula is that each player begins the game with a 5 and is the equilibrium from which their performance either improves or degrades moving in increments of .5.
Here is the breakdown of the starting XI:
Stamatopoulos – 5.5
Wasn't given too much to do. Came out well to take the ball off the feet of a St. Lucia striker in the second half.
Jazic – 6
Barely mentioned his name tonight but that meant he hardly set a foot wrong.
Straith – 6.5
Looked confident playing at centre back. What looked to be a miscommunication with Edgar in the second half allowed St. Lucia's best chance but setting up Canada's first two goals is something to be proud of.
Edgar – 6
The one mistake allowing the break in on Stamatopoulos in the second half is the only strike against him.
Ledgerwood – 6.5
After missing last month with injury, Ledgerwood looks solid and comfortable at right back. Seems to have made that position his after the Gold Cup.
Johnson – 5
Not given much time to get settled. Injured on a tackle in the first half. Required treatment but came back on before being replaced by Dunfield. Came off under his own steam. Likely taken off for precautionary reasons.
De Guzman – 5
Really didn't see him all night. Had a shot blocked in the first half but otherwise didn't have any impact.
De Rosario – 6.5
Caused all sorts of troubles on the left side and fed in some decent crosses. Canada's third came from a play that he started.
Occean – 7
Played a number of different roles. Was a good target man. The touch on his first goal was well done (originally thought it was an OG but Occean cleary touched it). Did well to round the keeper on his second.
Hume – 7
Looks to be finding his form for Canada. Constant headache. Could have easily had at least two more. The move to Preston has paid dividends for club and country.
Jackson – 8
Hopefully a breakout performance for the Norwich man as the goals have been hard to come by. Good positioning on his second and third goals, tidy chip for his first.
Subs
Dunfield – 5.5
Came on for Johnson in the 17th minute. Not terribly involved going forward but did his job as the defensive midfielder well. Played the full 90 with a great sliding tackle as his highlight.
Simpson – 5.5
Did well in his limited second half action. Caused trouble down the left. Fanned on a gimme goal late.
Morgan – 5
Not much to rate his performance. His good cross setting up Hume's second was offset but a few nervy touches after coming in.
