“On the fourth day of Christmas, Bell + Rogers gave to me…”
TFC’s Fourth Consecutive Canadian Championship Title
Day Four brings back such good memories of years past: The miracle in Montreal in 2009, the lacklustre 2010 campaign with only seven goals scored, and, who can forget, the 2011 heartbreak of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Three years of Toronto FC trophy collecting in Canada’s most prestigious football competition, the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. On our fourth day, Toronto FC, we ask you for our fourth title.
It’s a tough life, being the best in the country. Every other team wants to see you fall, and take the trophy for themselves. Vancouver based their entire first year on the premise that their first major victory would be the assured success in the Canadian Championship. Yet Toronto FC came through, once again, and kept the Voyageurs Cup at BMO Field.
2012 will be an interesting year for Toronto FC, but a fourth consecutive title in this competition would simply be outstanding, especially considering the matter of that new MLS expansion side coming through in Montreal. The Impact will have the same level of desire as Vancouver to claim this trophy, but Toronto FC will still be the team to beat.
Defeating Montreal and Vancouver as MLS counterparts instead of lower-division rivals would be provide Toronto FC with a much more impressive campaign. Sure, the issue of FC Edmonton still exists, but between the three big competitors, Toronto FC’s fourth title would also be its greatest.
Four years of Canadian glory, and a fourth year of disappointment in the hearts and minds of Vancouver and Montreal? Make it happen!
