Vancouver Whitecaps 1 – 2 LA Galaxy
L.A. Galaxy beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 – 1 in Los Angeles and stopped the Whitecaps undefeated streak at seven matches. Vancouver had tons of problems generating goal opportunities, and ended up with only four shots on goal.
On the good note, Camilo scored his eleventh goal in the last ten matches.
The key to the ratings, as seems to be the logic on a scale of 1-10, is not to view it as a “grade”, as in a 6 would be a 60 or a C. The formula is that each player begins the game with a 5 and is the equilibrium from which their performance either improves or degrades moving in increments of .5.
Here is the breakdown of the starting XI:
Brad Knighton – 6.5
Another great game by the keeper. Two spectacular saves from Knighton allowed the Whitecaps to push for the equalizer until the final whistle was blown.
Your rating:
Jordan Harvey – 3.5
Another mediocre game by Harvey. Missed a great chance to score the equalizer in the second half after a great pass from Manneh.
Your rating:
Johnny Leveron – 4
Leveron had a hard time defending and covering L.A.’s offensive players, and usually looked out of position.
Your rating:
Brad Rusin – 4
Rusin had a spectacular save in the first half, but had a very costly mistake in L.A.’s second goal.
Your rating:
Y.P. Lee – 5.5
Lee had a very decent offensive game and also did a nice job defending his wing.
Your rating:
Jun Marques Davidson – 4.5
Davidson played much better in the first half than in the second. He was shown a yellow card.
Your rating:
Nigel Reo-Coker – 5
Reo-Coker did a nice job managing the ball, but he wasn’t very effective covering L.A.’s midfielders since he was booked late in the first half.
Your rating:
Gershon Koffie – 4.5
Koffie lost his cool after L.A.’s first goal. He was booked three minutes after the Galaxy scored the equalizer, and that forced him to stop aggressively pressuring L.A.’s defenders to avoid a second yellow card.
Your rating:
Russell Teibert – 4.5
Teibert had a goal assist, but he wasn’t nearly as dangerous in this game as he was in the first match between the Whitecaps and the Galaxy.
Your rating:
Camilo Sanvezzo – 6.5
Camilo scored a goal in the only goal opportunity Vancouver generated in the first half, and now he’s the sole scoring leader of the MLS.
Your rating:
Kenny Miller – 4
Miller missed a clear goal opportunity in the second half that would’ve been the equalizer. It was the worst game from Miller since he came back from injury.
Your rating:
Substitutes:
Kekuta Manneh – 6.5
Manneh generated two goal opportunities with two great passes. Very good game by the youngster from Gambia.
Your rating:
Daigo Kobayashi - 4
Kobayashi played the last 15 minutes of the game. He failed to make his presence felt.
Your rating:
Tommy Heinemann – (--)
Heinemann only played the last minute of the game.
