The past few days did not exactly produce a banner weekend for Canadian players in Europe, as a large number of the players who could make up the core of Canada’s Gold Cup squad next summer either did not see any minutes or did not even make the bench for their respective teams.

It was also a genuine case of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly for the Canadian goalkeepers who ply their trades in Europe. While Lars Hirschfeld and Tomer Chencinski earned clean sheets for their clubs in Norway and Sweden respectively while Kenny Stamatopoulos and Haidar Al-Shaibani were once again second choice for the managers of AIK and Nimes. Most disconcertingly, Milan Borjan appeared to suffer a serious injury in Sivasspor’s 2-1 loss to Akhisar Belediyespor.

In England
It looks like Norwich City striker Simeon Jackson is now going through one of those stretches in which his playing opportunities are rare, as the striker did not see the pitch in his side’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. As was the case last week, David Edgar did not play as Burnley lost 4-0 to Cardiff City in Championship play. However, given that Burnley has now conceded seven goals in their last two matches, it would not be a surprise if Terry Pashley switched things up next time out and played Edgar with an eye to stemming the bleeding. Both Iain Hume and Marcus Haber played significant minutes in their League One matches, but neither striker was able to find the back of the net.

In Holland
Atiba Hutchinson continued his run as an automatic starter at right back and contributed in PSV’s 2-1 victory over PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie. The Dutch heavyweights continue to sit one point behind leaders Twente.

In Turkey
While nothing has been officially announced as of yet, it looks like keeper Milan Borjan could be out of action for a significant period of time. The Canadian International was injured Sivasspor’s 2-1 loss to Akhisar Belediyespor and had to be carried off the pitch via a stretcher.
