Last November I began a project to write an article for Plastic Pitch discussing the CSL of the late 80s and early 90s and its influence on Canada's attempt to qualify for the 1994 World Cup. I was concerned that the project was going to be beyond me as I thought it might be difficult to get people to agree to interviews. I was pleasantly surprised. Virtually everyone I contacted not only agreed to be interviewed but gave much more time than I anticipated. One of those I contacted was Alex Bunbury. Anyone familiar with the topics above will realize that he would be a first choice interview subject. I contacted him through his club and we soon had set up an interview time over the phone. What came next caught me completely off guard. Not only was Alex very generous with his time and forthcoming with his answers, but he ranged very freely with the subject matter and went several places that I had no intention of going, most notably to the topic of his son playing for the United States. It soon became clear that this interview was not only valuable to the article I was writing, but was valuable in its own right and needed to be shared. He generously agreed to let us include it in the podcast so here it is for your listening pleasure. Many thanks to Alex for his time and candour. We hope you enjoy the interview.
