Toronto FC's latest venture in player development finally kicked off this past weekend as TFC II began their season in USL Pro. A much needed step in keeping players on the fringe of the first team active, as well as providing a place for both academy and college prospects to continue to grow, are the obvious benefits of being involved with the league.
Aaron Neilsen (@ENBSports) and Toronto FC II's reporter Kamal Hylton (@KamalHylton) meet up to discuss the first ever game with Toronto FC II taking on the Charleston Battery.
The make-up of this fixture is interesting because it pitted youth against a club that has a long history in the league and some veterans of USL Pro. As the game wore on, even thought Toronto FC shot out like a cannon with two quick goals, the experience of Charleston began to show as they were ready to fight for the full ninety minutes.
For a first game, Toronto FC II showed signs of being a good team and individuals stood out as real prospects for the senior side. Mark Anthony Kaye has the physical presence to watch for in the future, while Luca Uccello making an appearance at 17 years of age shows he could be one to be making real strides for the first team before he is 20. Of course Jordan Hamilton continues to prove he is a top finisher, however, from a defensive standpoint there was suspect moments both in goal and with the players in front of Alex Bono.
All in all, despite the 3-2 loss to Charleston, there were still many positives to take both from the performance and first steps in USL Pro for TFC II.
