In a dominating performance, Toronto beat Chicago Fire 1-0 at BMO Field. While a win against the lowly Chicago side, few expected such a dominating performance from the weakened Toronto. But with strong showings from Benoit Cheyrou and Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto looked better than they've looked in a while.
The Opening 45
Toronto controlled the game out of the gate, with the game's only goal coming in the 9th minute from Justin Morrow (assisted by Giovinco and Jonathan Osorio). They would continue to apply pressure for much of the half but Chicago was able to hold them back.
The Second Half
Toronto continued to apply pressure to Chicago in the second half and one could almost taste that second goal but alas it eluded Toronto. Giovinco seemed to want a goal more than anyone else, one would not have been shocked if he exploded in a rage if he missed one more chance. He was on fire but just couldn't find the back of the net. The likes of Jordan Hamilton and Osorio also came close.
Chicago was threatening at times but was unable to get a shot passed Alex Bono. Kennedy Igboananike came closest to scoring for Chicago but thankfully his shot hit the crossbar.
Man of the Match
Benoit Cheyrou
As his absence last week showed, Cheyrou is very much a key player for Toronto FC. He continues to drive Toronto's midfield and is making fans more comfortable with Bradley and Johnson out of the line-up.
