It was a game where Toronto FC seemed destined to score but then an unexpected red card resulted in Orlando City coming at Toronto hard. While the game might have felt like a missed opportunity, it reinforced the idea that Toronto are a very hard team to beat.
The Opening 45
For much of the first half, Toronto seemed to dominate. A weak first minute shot by Marko Delgado so turned into solid chances from Tosaint Ricketts and Justin Morrow. Panamanian international Armando Cooper made his starting debut and impressed everyone by breaking Orlando's backline. Despite everything, Toronto was unable to get a shot on net.
Orlando, despite seemingly being behind Toronto, were still dangerous, particularly Kaka seemed to be schooling Toronto players at various times. When they were able to get a shot on target, Alex Bono kept em out. Just a shame ex-Toronto keeper Joe Bendik did the same.
The Second Half
The second-half seemed a bit more 50/50, with Toronto having a slight edge. The likes Jozy Altidore and Jonathan Osorio had fantastic chances but just couldn't nail one into the back of the net. When it seemed a goal was coming soon, a controversial red card sent Ricketts off the field.
From then on Toronto was on the defense and did a good job keeping Orlando away from the net and hold on for the tie.
Man of the Match
Alex Bono
Despite some errors, Bono was solid in the net tonight. There were several very dangerous moments and Bono was key to preventing them from becoming fatal.
