Toronto FC went back and forth with Sporting Kansas City in a wet home-opener. With tired key players from international play, off-performances and a big injury, Toronto had to settle for draw.

The Opening 45
While the half was relatively evenly matched (if a bit dull at times), Sporting set the pace of the game and seemed to be pushing Toronto to make an error. They also kept Toronto away from their end for most of the half while keeping the Toronto defence on their feet.
Toronto were not without their chances but nothing clicked. The wet pitch was partly to blame as it caused a great chance for Victor Vazquez to go to waste but other players had nothing to blame but themselves. Jonathan Osorio, for example, found himself unable not to send the ball flying over the net.
Tragedy hit Toronto in the 36th minute, when Soony Saad clipped Clint Irwin's leg on a rush, causing Irwin to exit the game early.
The Second Half
A reversal of roles seemed to occur in the second half. Toronto looked aggressive and determined. Despite the arrival of Jozy Altidore and Armondo Cooper into the game, Toronto were unable to break Sporting's defence and Tim Melia.
Despite being on defence, Sporting had the best chances of the half but Alex Bono was able to stop big chances by Com Dwyer and Gerso Fernandes to get Toronto the home result and maintained the undefeated record.
Man of the Match
Alex Bono
Coming in as a sub, Bono made a big impact with his big saves. Praise should also be given to Raheem Edwards, who looked good and went the distance in his debut as a starter.
