The first ever MLS playoff game played in Toronto went as most would have hoped: with a Toronto FC victory. Philadelphia Union brought a fight but it just wasn't enough.
Start spreading the news!
The Opening 45
Toronto came out of the gate slow. For the first 10 minutes, Philadelphia controlled the ball and pace of the game. Thankfully for Toronto, Philadelphia was unable to get anything off.
Finding their groove, Toronto took control of the game and in the 18th minute, Sebastian Giovinco scored a goal off of a fantastic set-up by Jozy Altidore. Toronto would have chances but would not score again in the half, which ended 1-0.
The tension-filled half also saw four yellow cards issued, two to each side.
The Second Half
Jonothan Osorio got the goal Toronto had been hoping for quickly. The goal seemed to cement a Toronto win early and caused Toronto to kind of rest on their laurels.
While Toronto rested, Philidelphia kicked it into high gear. They dominated possession and did everything they could to get to Toronto's net. Taking advantage of Toronto's weak defense, Alejandro Bedoya finally got them on the board.
The goal seemed to wake-up Toronto and moments later, Altidore put away goal number three and secured the win for Toronto.
Toronto will face New York City on Sunday, in a game that will surely confirm that the TFC/NYCFC rivalry is more fierce than any other Toronto know.
Man of the Match
Jozy Altidore
His assist was amazing and his goal put the game away. His pressing and aggressive play set the tone and wore down the Union defenders.
