Juan Córdova is first Canadian of summer 2017 to move for a fee and he's moving up a level. Juanito’s agent and manager, Peter Raco, has confirmed Córdova has transferred from Unión San Felipe of Primera B de Chile to Deportivo Huachipato of Chilean Primera División for an undisclosed fee.
A right and left-back, Córdova made 23 appearances with San Felipe in the 2016-17 season and was named to the Primera B Team of the Year. Juan has made over 65 club appearances in all competition. He debuted with the U23 Canadian Nation team in March.

Huachipato finished the Primera División 2017 Clausura in 12th.
Raco explained, “there were a number of clubs interested in Juanito including a Major League Soccer side. This multi-year deal made the most sense today, he is well positioned to continue development with a strong side in Chile’s Primera División. Córdova is excited about playing top flight South America football in July. He has much to prove at both club and country level this summer”
“I want to make an impact with the club right away. It’s an honor to play in the Chilean Primera División and with Huachipato. I want to become an important part of the club,” Cordova had to say.
Huachipato VP Marcelo Pesce had strong praise for Córdova
“We are very happy with the Juan transfer to Huachipato. We were looking him for the last 2 years and we saw a lot progress in Juan’s game. He is faster and strong than ever and we are very optimistic that with our help he’ll become a better player. The base of our team it is the young people and Juan fix perfect in this project.”
Pesce also expressed excitement at Huachipato gaining a new international player.
"The relation with the Canada National Team is an honor for us be a part of this. In this moment we have players in the national team of Bolivia, Venezuela, Chile and now Canada. We hope that Juan, as a young player, has the possibility to grow with this group of players. We have the best impressions of the National Coach Zambrano.”
