As a player capable of excelling at multiple positions, TFC newcomer Warren Creavalle is raring to go for his new club but also not completely sure about from which position he will contribute.
The 23 year old Acworth, Georgia native spoke with the Toronto media for the first time on Friday and expressed delight at his move from the Houston Dynamo to an on the rise Toronto FC team.
“I’m definitely excited to be here. It is a beautiful city and a beautiful place to train,” Creavalle said. “It seems like a good group of guys in the locker room. So I’m ready to get after it. TFC has looked sharp all year and very explosive. The firepower that the team has is great. The team is looking strong in the East and I’m just hoping I can contribute to that now.”
Interestingly, the 37th pick in the second round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft has joined Toronto FC after facing his new club as an opponent twice just prior to the trade.
“The trade was a surprise,” Creavalle explained. “I’ve been in Houston for the last two and a half years and it is just a part of the business. You just never know when it is going to happen.“
“It was a bit of a weird one, with all of the emotions in playing a team and then switching to that team,” he added. “However, I do welcome this transition.”
TFC Head Coach Ryan Nelsen spoke glowingly of Creavalle’s versatility as a quality that could greatly benefit his side for the remainder of the season, with the Reds gaffer highlighting his newest player’s ability to play as a central midfielder, out wide and pretty much anywhere across the back line.
While Creaville himself has his own preference with respect to position, he was also quick to state that he is ready to play anywhere he needs to in order to help the team.
“I’ve kind of made central midfield my home, but whatever the team needs, I’m ready for it,” Creavaille stated. “There are some injuries right now, so there is a bit of shuffling going on. I could see time in the midfield and in defense throughout the year.”
While to a man all of the recent newcomers to Toronto FC have expressed excitement at joining a Toronto FC side that contains plenty of quality and depth, Creavalle was open in admitting that he hopes his flexibility will be asset, especially given that the Reds have plenty of quality at his favoured position.
“Absolutely, it will be tough to break into the lineup,” Creavalle said. “That’s a good thing. There is quality on this team and I’m excited to contribute to the team.”
