In this interview, RedNation and Andrea discuss her playing career with the Canadian Women’s National Team and the Vancouver Whitecaps Women’s Football Club, the current state of women’s soccer in Canada, her induction into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame and her new position as Head Coach of the University of British Columbia’s women’s soccer team.
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Neil was the first Canadian to feature in four FIFA Women’s World Cups. Over an 18-year career, she set a national record by making 132 international appearances and won four CONCACAF silver medals. In 2012, she was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame. After her retirement as a player, Neil went on to become an assistant coach with the Canadian Women’s National Team, helping the team to win the Cypress Cup twice, the Brazil Four Nations Tournament and the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament in 2010.
