Toronto FC 3 - 0 FC Dallas
THE GOOD
Everything. What a performance. Really, it speaks for itself, congratulations Toronto FC on a quarterfinal spot in the CONCACAF Champions League.
THE BAD
N/A
THE UGLY
"I thought they came to play. I thought they played unselfishly, they bought into the system, they were physical, they did everything they needed to do to absolutely kick our ass." - Schellas Hyndman
Toronto FC 2 - 2 New England Revolution
THE GOOD
The Game and Its Result:
Toronto FC’s final game of the season summarizes the entire campaign; a great eye for goals coupled with poor defending on set-pieces, finalized with dropped points against beatable opposition. Though Toronto FC played well, a 2-2 draw is almost fitting, and Aron Winter will look to improve on an already solid second-half of his first season with Toronto.
Player Performance:
When Toronto FC last closed their season against New England, there was a striker named Danny who scored a late equalizing goal – now, years later, Danny Koevermans has done the same. Koevermans’ 8 goals in 10 games is an incredible tally.
Nick Soolsma also enjoyed a solid match, providing an outlet on the right wing for Toronto FC.
Noteworthy Moment of the Match:
Torsten Frings’ recovering tackle was followed by a few short runs, each with a stop and change of direction, before clearing the ball with a pass to Plata, who proceeded to weave around another handful of Revolution players; in 5 years, Toronto has never shown such confident flow.
THE BAD
The Game and Its Result:
Conceding on set-pieces has been the bane of Toronto’s existence under Aron Winter, and that is something the head coach will address in the off-season. Going up 1-0 and then conceding twice is a bit worrying, and consistency against lesser opposition is needed. All in all, Winter’s got some more work to do.
Player Performance:
Milos Kocic, though a fully capable goalkeeper in MLS, made a few mistakes against New England, which a healthy Stefan Frei could possibly make. New England’s equalizing goal off the corner suddenly brings about images of Frei making a miraculous save, which the flailing arms of Kocic could not replicate. Perhaps fusing the two keepers together would be Toronto’s fantasy starter, but until then, Frei’s value is still a necessity for TFC.
Noteworthy Moment of the Match:
New England’s ability to break down Toronto FC early in the second half came as a result of poor marking by the centerback pairing. Aron Winter needs to make changes at center back, this much is clear. ------
THE UGLY
The only thing worth mentioning is that the season is over! March cannot come soon enough for Toronto FC fans, who were just starting to get into the winning spirit. The offseason awaits for Toronto FC.
