Toronto FC ll have added one more local talent to their squad, signing Marcos Nunes to a USL contract last week In a move that will add an explosive and speedy option to the Red’s attack.
The 22 year old originally from Brampton, Ontario has been working hard at a chance to play at the highest level, and caught the eye of TFC after having played for NK Travnik in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina and also playing for the Humber Hawks, helping the Hawks capture both the CCAA National Championship and OCAA Provincial Championship back-to-back in 2012 and 2013, being named the 2013 MVP for the CCAA National Championship in the process.
“Its an amazing feeling to be part of this organization.” Said Nunes. “The club has everything for me to play at the top level, from the condition of the pitch to the staff, everything and everyone is amazing, and they are very professional. The training facility is world class and I believe this is very important for the development.”
Playing in various leagues and countries, from the United States to Portugal to Bosnia, Nunes says that he is happy he got his big break in Canada, his home country where he feels the most comfortable, and is constantly getting the support and affection of his teammates and staff.
“It’s very important for me to be back here in Canada. I played last season in the first division in Bosnia and I did really well over there, but my dream was always to play here for Toronto FC.” Said Nunes.
“I am focused on learning as much as I can and showing my quality every day in every training session and every game so that one day, in the near future, I can have chance with the MLS squad. That is my goal and that is what I'm working towards at the moment but I know it’s a process and I have to work hard every day to be given the honor of stepping on the pitch. Whether it’s with the USL or MLS squad it’s always a privilege to put on the red of TFC, so I never take that for granted. My other goal is to play for my country, and to earn my first cap with my nation.”
Nunes had his first game against Montreal Impact and was able to score a goal on his debut, and showed off his speed and ability as he terrorized Impact’s defence.
“It was obviously very exciting to hear that I was starting in the 401 derby with our bitter rivals. I went into the game knowing that there was only one choice which was to grab the three points away from home which fortunately we did.” Said Nunes.
“Montreal had a tough squad but we did well and came away with the result we all wanted. Fortunately I had the chance to score but the most important thing was that it helped us bring home the three points. To me the club always comes first so although it was nice to score.”
The club will play its home opener at BMO Field on Saturday, May 23 against the Rochester Rhinos. Toronto FC II will play 12 regular season home matches at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
