Ottawa Fury will host NASL Spring Season Champions New York Cosmos on Wednesday evening in what will be a clash between the two hottest clubs in the NASL. The Fury have never managed to earn a win vs New York in their previous meetings, however Fury have never played the level of football vs New York that they have been playing in recent matches.
Fury lost their last match vs Minnesota United, however over a week after that result Fury will be well rested and ready for the task ahead of them. Ottawa sit top of the Fall Standings, while New York sit five points clear atop the Combined Standings. Although Marc Dos Santos will be thrilled with the position the club currently sit, they will certainly be aiming to finish atop both the Fall and Combined Standings, and a win vs the Cosmos will be a big step towards that goal.
Keep Thinking
Julian De Guzman still remains injured; however he does appear to well on his way to recovery. To add to the midfield woes, Mauro Eustaquio also has a knock and is doubtful for the midweek clash. This means that Drew Beckie may once again slow into the defensive midfield role alongside captain Richie Ryan. Ubiparipovic may be a match day decision with a potential knock, however Carl Haworth could fill in quite easily in the attacking midfield position.
Last time Fury played the Cosmos they were without their captain Richie Ryan and were coming off a rough set of results. Although the match in Brooklyn may be seen as somewhat of a turning point for Fury in the Spring Season, it is the last eight games during the Fall that they have really excelled, and a win against the NASL’s top has never seemed more realistic for the Canadian club.
In The End
Fury have been in phenomenal lately, setting records and finding their way into a playoff spot. Dos Santos has been able to put together a team that not only plays well together on the pitch, but get along off it as well. The squad has a unique chemistry that results in a very hard working, dedicated team that is finally being rewarded for their hard work.
Although a win for Fury would likely be their biggest in club history, dropping points would still not be the end of the world, as Fury have a commanding lead atop the Fall Season Standings. Following a the match vs New York, Fury will get a three day break before hosting the struggling but still dangerous Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday evening.
Prediction:
Ottawa Fury 2-1 New York Cosmos
