The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Canada 2014 is just one week away, running from August 5-24 in Edmonton, Toronto, Montréal and Moncton. Canada is opening the tournament in Toronto against Ghana on Tuesday, August 5 and Finland on Friday, August 8, before completing their Group A matches in Montréal against Korea DPR on Tuesday, August 12. If Canada moves on to the quarter-finals, they’ll play one of the top two teams of Group B: Brazil, China, Germany or USA.
Individual tickets can be purchased online via Ticketmaster and are now available in-person in host cities. More information on box office hours of operation can be found here.
- Edmonton: Gate #13 at Commonwealth Stadium (11000 Stadium Road)
- Moncton: South-east side of Moncton Stadium (58 Antonine-Maillet Avenue) at the Université de Moncton
- Montréal: Olympic Stadium (4545, avenue Pierre-De Coubertin)
- Toronto: North-east corner near Gate 1 at National Soccer Stadium (170 Princes' Boulevard)
- Tickets for matches at National Soccer Stadium are also available at the T.O. Tix booth at Yonge-Dundas Square.
Team news:
- Canada’s U-20 WWC roster was announced on July 16. Captained by defender Kinley McNicoll, the team is the “youngest squad that Canada has ever sent to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.”
- Following the press conference and a media tour, Canada headed to Mexico City for a 5-day camp at the Mexican Football Federation’s National Training Centre. They played two friendlies against Mexico’s U-20 team, resulting in a 0-0 tie and a 3-0 loss for Canada (links include footage from the matches and player interviews). Mexico is competing at the U-20 WWC in Group C with England, Korea Republic and Nigeria.
- Ghana’s U-20 WWC team prepared for the tournament with three matches against local youth clubs from the Greater Toronto Area. They defeated Scarborough G.S. United 2-0 and the Burlington Bayhawks U-21s 3-1, while tying 1-1 with the North Mississauga Panthers.
