Fresh off the recent news that Drew Beckie has signed with the Columbus Crew and the official announcement that Nana Attakora has re-signed with the San Jose Earthquakes, former FC Edmonton midfielder Kyle Porter has now joined the ranks of a select group of Canadian players plying their trade in the North American top flight on a non-Canadian MLS club.
Porter has reportedly been very impressive while on trial with D.C. United over the last several weeks and his management company, Kudos Management, announced via Twitter on Friday that the Toronto native has agreed to terms with the storied MLS club.
The 23 year old now becomes the third Canadian player on the D.C. United roster, joining central defender and Canadian International Dejan Jakovic and the Canadian Men’s National Team’s all-time leading scorer, Dwayne De Rosario.
Porter played in the North American Soccer League for FC Edmonton over the last two years, making 47 appearances and scoring 12 goals in the North American second division.
His move to the MLS comes just a few weeks after he earned his first cap for the Canadian Men’s National Team in a friendly against Denmark on January 26th.
