Ottawa Fury FC and head coach Marc Dos Santos today announced Nicki Paterson as the North American Soccer League club’s first signing pending international transfer.
The 28 year old Motherwell, Scotland native brings significant North American soccer experience and has signed a two-year contract while joiniing Fury FC from USL PRO club Charleston Battery where he has spent the last three seasons highlighted by winning the USL PRO Championship in 2012.
“Nicki is a player that we have been following for a while and we’re thrilled to have a player of his ability join us for our inaugural season,” said Fury FC Head Coach Marc Dos Santos. “We believe that he has the exact profile and attitude this club needs and we’re certain that he’ll be a fan favourite and leader in our community.”
Paterson is central midfielder who is coming off a standout season in Charleston finishing the season with 10 goals and 4 assists bringing his three-year career total with the Battery to 30 goals and 10 assists – the most points of any midfielder in the league during that period. Paterson was instrumental in Charleston’s USL PRO championship in 2012 – a season that also saw the midfielder named to the USL PRO First Team. He has twice been named the Battery’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive MVP. Paterson holds the longest active scoring streak in the history of the US Open Cup, scoring in each of the last 5 years of the competition.

A native of Motherwell, Scotland, Paterson began his youth career for his home team – the storied Scottish football club – Motherwell FC. At age 17, Paterson turned pro in Scotland before moving to the United States on a scholarship at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Paterson has since played in the Scottish Second Division, PDL, USL Second Division and USL PRO.
