This season, Toronto FC revolutionized the Chip Butty, and literally millions of people rejoiced. The soggy, stale sandwich was replaced with a glorious concoction of carbs and spices that makes for the perfect gameday snack. The poutine version took the standard Chip Butty and made it uniquely Canadian.
In short, the Chip Butty is delicious.
However, now is the time to take the glorious French-fry sandwich and make it something special. It’s why, on day seven of our wish list countdown, we take a look at the humble Chip Butty and ask Santa for seven brand new flavours!
1. Burrito Butty
A Chip Butty with plenty of vegetables, a heaping serving of beans and rice, pork, beef or chicken, and chipotle sauce. It would go perfectly beside the taco stand, and the variety of hot sauces available would kick this Butty up a notch (or three)!
2. Pizza Butty
Take those fries, smother them in hot pizza sauce, throw some cheese on top, and line up some pepperoni, and you have the Pizza Butty! Everyone loves pizza, everyone loves French fries, so this combination basically caters to every Toronto FC fan ever.
3. Cake Butty
Inspired by Toronto FC’s Cake Boss contest last season, this unique dessert may just revolutionize the way we eat Chip Buttys. Remove the bun and replace it with cake, instead, and as I’m typing this, I realize how unappealing that sounds – never mind.
4. Fish and Chip Butty
See what I did there? Find some delicious lemon cod, layer some fries on top of it, serve in a bun, and top it off with some tartar sauce, and you have yourself a delicious meal fit for a king.
5. Onion Butty?
Now, hear me out – this is a Chip Butty without the chips, rather, served with onion rings. Everyone loves getting a random onion ring in their French fries, so why not take this concept and expand on it. In fact, I’m going to go try making this right now. I’ll keep you posted (4:31 p.m.)
6. Frings Butty
(6:42 p.m.) It was delicious. Now, because you can’t really take the French fries out of a Chip Butty, I propose a revision – the Frings Butty will be part French fries, part onion ring, but 100 per cent awesome. If only Toronto FC had a player named Frings on their roster. One can dream.
7. Deep Fried Butty
Take any of the Chip Buttys mentioned and put it in a deep fryer – pretty self-explanatory, really.
That wraps up our seven brand new Chip Buttys, but feel free to leave a comment with your recipe, if you can think of something to make our TFC snack just a little bit more legendary.
