The trials of Canadians in Europe.
GK – Iker Casillas, Real Madrid – He’s won everything in the game at club and International level. Still pretty young for a keeper, I think he’ll continue to achieve great things at the top for years to come.
LB – Roberto Carlos, Former Brazilian International – I enjoyed watching him play because of his speed and tendency to go forward and attack. He was equally as impressive with his capabilities as a defender; and a free-kick specialist.
CB – Carlos Puyol, Barcelona – Solid and confident in the back. He’s great in the air and a leader. Overall, he’s one of the most experienced defenders currently in the game.
RB – Dani Alves, Barcelona – Similar to Carlos, I enjoy watching him play because of what he brings to his team going forward, as much as his abilities as a defender. Technically solid and athletic, he has proven he can do it all from right back.
LM – Robbie Tice – Since it’s my perfect 10, I have to include myself in this lineup. I would love to have the chance to play with these players around me. There will be many big things to come from me in the years to come.
CM – Paul Scholes, Manchester United – Labeled a complete midfielder by some of the best players of his generation. He keeps possession all game long, manages to pick out the impossible passes and has scored some amazing goals throughout his career.
CM – Zinedine Zidane, Former French International – Great individual skill and technique, he was one of a kind. Another complete midfielder, he was a great passer and could score all different kinds of goals, as well as set them up. In my opinion, one of the best midfielders to ever play the game.
RM – David Beckham, LA Galaxy – As well as admiring his playing style, I also respect him because of his work ethic and attitude; a true professional. Many people have written him off over the years and he continues to prove his doubters wrong. One of the best free-kick takers and passers I’ve ever seen.
LF – Thierry Henry, New York Red Bulls – Growing up, I used to love watching him play for Arsenal. Great pace and one of the best finishers you could find. Even today, you still see flashes off his ability at New York Red Bulls.
CF – Lionel Messi, Barcelona – Currently the best player in the world and he just seems to keep getting better and better. Overall he is simply fun to watch. How could he not be in my team?
RF – Ronaldinho, Atlético Mineiro – During his prime, he was a pleasure to watch. I was always inspired by what he could do with a ball. I could watch Youtube clips of his skills and tricks for hours.
