With a handful of games still to be played on Monday, it was another encouraging weekend for Canadians playing abroad. An entirely new set of goalscorers this week offer some new discussion on perhaps some options to Benito Floro as both Iain Hume and Daniel Haber put the ball in the back of the net as their respective clubs won on the weekend. Haber specifically will likely get noticed as he scored his first goal for Apollon Limassol as they bean Alki 2-1 with Haber’s goal being the winner. After this highlight, there were some continued players earning minutes, a few still sitting on the bench and a few injuries rounding out the weekend for Canucks abroad.
In England
Looking back to 2009 after recovering from his skulll injury and trying to get his feet back under him, Iain Hume struggled at Barnsley to regain a respectable scoring rate that began at Tranmere and carried over to Leicester City. It was a loan to Preston North End that saw him appear to play with more enthusiasm as he became an integral part of their season end battle to avoid relegation from the Championship. It wasn’t meant to be as they went down to League One at the end of the season, but Hume found a home and stayed on with the Whites.
His future there was up in the air after being loaned out to Doncaster last season, but ended up remaining with the club and has been a part of an impressive start to the campain that has them yet to lose and currently on a five-game winning streak. Hume started this past weekend and headed in the opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Swindon Town. Having started the past three games, Hume will certainly have given manager Simon Grayson confidence that a partnership with Kevin Davies might be the right fit to get Preston North End back to the Championship.
TIain Hume knocks in the opening goal, and his first of the season, as Preston North End continue their impressive start with a 2-1 win over Swindon Town.
Daniel Haber slots home the winner as Apollon defeat Alki 2-1.
