Another week, and another fairly positive series of appearances, performances and results for Canadians plying their trade in outside of the Americas. As November 11 and 15 approach, keeping an eye on the players who have been key to the first set of World Cup Qualifying results, as well as some who might be able to justify a call-up either in two weeks or next summer, is important to determine who can be depended on to finish off the round on top.

With a handful of important starters such as Kevin McKenna, Marcel De Jong and Atiba Hutchinson all dealing with injuries, players such as Patrice Bernier, David Edgar and Mike Klukowski will need to be in game shape, and fortunately all three have been getting consistent minutes each match for the past month. Each of their respective clubs came away with points this weekend, as Bernier most notably was able to go ninety in defeating his former club Nordsjaelland 1-0.

In England
It was in the attacking position that most eyes were on this past weekend as Canadian-born and Canadian International strikers went head to head. For the first time since Tomasz Radzinski and Paul Stalteri faced off for Fulham and Tottenham, Canadians Simeon Jackson and Junior Hoilett shared the pitch in the Premiership as Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City ended their afternoon in a 3-3 draw. Hoilett got the opening goal and Jackson came on at the 75th minute to be part of a two-goal comeback as the Canaries snatched three points out of the hands of Blackburn.

In Romania
Many supporters are well aware of the unfortunate position that Tosaint Ricketts found himself in through the offseason as his club would have been competing in Europe this year, but the shady behind the scenes dealings that have maligned many clubs and leagues saw them punished by being sent to the second division.

In a Romanian Cup fixture mid-week, Politechna Timisoara showed they might be a league below, but still can compete with the top-flight clubs as they defeated Steaua Bucuresti 2-0, with Tosaint Ricketts scoring the winning goal in front of 20,000 people.

In Turkey
Another region to feel positive about was in the Super Lig this past week, as all three Canadian Internationals saw significant playing time through the week.

For Manisaspor, both Mike Klukowski and Josh Simpson featured in a 2-0 win over Klukowski’s former Turkish club Ankaragucu, and then held Bursaspor to a 0-0 draw. With the two good results, Manisaspor find themselves on a five game unbeaten streak, four of which have been wins. Now sitting in seventh place with fifteen points, Manisaspor are within a game of being in second, as Fenerbahce top the table with 18 points with a game in hand.

Milan Borjan had spent the last few weeks watching from the bench, but finally got his chance again between the posts for Sivasspor and did well for himself, earning a clean sheet midweek against Mersin Idmanyurdu in a 1-0 win, but his side looked overwhelmed against a strong Besiktas side. Sivasspor had managed to keep the game close at 1-1, but a red card and ensuing penalty kick for Besiktas gave them the lead and they finished the game 3-1.
